Macroinvertebrates and Water Quality

As part of my quest to get out more and add fun stuff to school, we went to a Science Day at a local nature center today.   It was interesting and educational but the amount of fun was debatable.

Today's program was on macroinvertebrates and water quality.  The group went down to a stream and went wading to look for macroinvertebrates.  Well, it was about 54 degrees and raining lightly, so it wasn't the best weather to go wading in a stream.

Squidy got water in his boots, was very uncomfortable and ready to go home pretty quickly.

Vicki, on the other hand, ended up wet to the waist and was reveling in it.  Until the walk back up to the car and the wet ride home that is.

We definitely will continue to do more of these programs.  Hopefully our next walk in the woods will be more comfortable.

As we pulled into our driveway, I noticed something interesting in the rhododendron outside Vicki's bedroom window....

We'll have to keep an eye on the nest, as much as we can without disturbing them.
